Christmas anything that moves……
EPISODE 90 SHOW NOTES
FINISHED OBJECTS
I’ve finished Percy (poinsettia)….and Chris (the Christmas Elf) well most of him anyway, just not his right arm - although I fixed this issue straight after filming so phew.
These guys are two of the characters from the new Christmas collection from Lydia Tresselt, Christmas Vol. 2. You can find Lydia on instagram as @lalylaland and all her patterns are available to buy on Ravelry.
I’m using Scheepjes Catona in the recommended colours; white (old lace) beige (moon rock), petrol (spruce), red (hot red), and yellow (saffron).
I just have Bauble Molly to make in time for Christmas and I’m looking forward to giving these to Betsy (me) on Christmas Day.
I finished the Classic Ribbed Hat, a free pattern from Purl Soho. It’s a lovely, simple ribbed pattern worked in the round on 3.25mm needles.
I used the softest yarn in the world, Rico Baby Dream DK Uni in the colour Mustard.
FINISHED OBJECTS
I also finished my Bonfire Socks using the Bonfire Night mystery skein from @biffsugaryarns.
I used a modified seed stitch pattern on the socks and I will be writing it up and putting it up as a free pattern as soon as possible, hopefully during the Christmas break.
I also made a load of red Christmas baubles for Betsy’s school friends (well, their Mums anyway), using the Crocheted Christmas Bauble pattern from Pip Lincolne, you can find the pattern on her meetmeatmikes website here.
WORKS IN PROGRESS
I’ve finished one of Betsy’s welly socks. The lovely yarn is Rico Superba Vintage in the Pink Mix colourway and I’m working a 60st sock on 2.25mm needles with a German short row heel.
I’m also plodding along happily with my annual West Yorkshire Spinners Christmas Socks, this year I’m using the Fairy Lights colourway with the added sparkle and I’m pairing it with Cayenne Pepper also from WYS. I’m just working my standard vanilla sock on 2.25mm needles.
I’ve turned the heel on my Luxury Sparkle Socks.
For these rather fabulous ankle socks I’m using a mixture of sequins, 4ply and mohair lace.
I will share the basic pattern for these socks soon but in the meantime I am using a 4ply sock yarn called Golden Gate from Miss Moffat Yarns on Etsy, together with the fabulous King Cole Cosmos in the Copper (1102) colourway and Drops Kid Silk in the Rust (33) colourway.
I am also using 2.5mm needles.
NEW AND NOTABLE
I started trying to make a big, chunky hat using Sirdar Adventure in the Polar colourway.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find my 12mm hat needles (I think I mean 40cm circulars but don’t quote me) so I tried to make the hat using 8mm needles on magic loop and whilst it looks quite pretty, the stitches are too tight and there is no stretch in the fabric. So.
Starting again once I get my needles which I was sure I had because I had made two the the His or Hers Bobble Hats by Anna Wilkinson from her book Learn to Knit, Love to Knit. I used the recommended yarn which is Blue Sky Fibers Hand Dyed Bulky and it is the hottest, most fabulously woolly yarn in the world, 50% alpaca, 50% wool. Love the hat so much but just wish I could wear it more often!
I also received the yarn from Sirdar to make the Roll Neck Poncho in Haworth Tweed. I’m so excited about this project and plan to make it in the Yorkshire Stone colourway.
I have also bought some new yarn from @biffsugaryarns (of course). I bought the Beatrix Sock Set (and then realised I have a skein of Beatrix already!) and a while ago I bought the Flashdance Sock Set for a potential New Year’s Eve cast on - the last socks of 2020 eh??
I also received a lovely gift from Eva @cocoandfloraeva of a notions pouch and some lovely smelling wax melts that Eva made herself and after experiencing Eva’s wax melts I had to go and buy some more (I am a convert) and got a lovely load of Christmassy smelling melts from The Wax Wonderland on Etsy and they smell divine.
My Christmas washi tapes have come from my Stationery Advent Calendar from Nikki’s Supply Store, an amazing independent stationery supplier in the UK.
I have also been buying notions for gifting to my work friends and had purchased the most amazing stitch markers from Emma @blue_ammonite - these Christmas bauble stitch markers are my absolute favourite so obviously they didn’t make it into any of my gift parcels!
And I bought a whole load of stickers and postcards from Kate @lanaboushop and I’ve got myself a little stash now for happy post throughout 2021 - I think we’re gonna need them!
Enjoy the podcast folks, and don’t forget to be awesome.
