episode 154 | picking up, putting down

Vintage square from 1971

EPISODE 154 SHOW NOTES

Today I’m a bit giddy about a vintage square pattern from a 1972 Mon Tricot issue. The square motif is part of a dress pattern, that is also epic, and I was intrigued by the striped border.

It is epic.

It is so epic that I will doing a tutorial for it very soon, just as soon as I figure out my favourite configuration for the colour placements.

For reference in this photo I have used Maui from Black Elephant and Stylecraft Special DK in black.

FINISHED

I’ve finished some more pumpkins.

Of course I have, the only thing stopping me making more is running out of stuffing and the endless number of post strikes that’s messing up deliveries in the UK right now.

The pattern, from CaMaRose, is called Pumpkin Harvest and all the pumpkins have been designed by Lene Soholm.

Pumpkin!

I’m using a mix of Rowan Alpaca Classic and Jamieson yarn left over from previous projects, it’s an excellent way to use up those small bits of leftover yarn that will never make it into another project. I’ve got six so far and I intend to keep going until I’ve used up all the leftover yarn.

Granny, Granny…

WIPS

I’ve finished the front and back panels of my granny square top so now I just need to complete some sleeves and I can start putting it together to see how it’s worked out. I’m quite excited, especially because I saw a similar top at Hush and it is £169!

I’m using all the leftovers from my DK weight calendar from Indie Yarn Club.

Because I had to add in additional Stylecraft Special DK to make the colours go a little further, I have a definite front and back because the front has more of the Indie Yarn Club yarn in it and I want this top to be a showcase for that.

For reference the black I’m using is Stylecraft Special DK and the yarn I ripped back was from my Stepping Stones DK weight socks that had gone wrong earlier this year and the colour is Magic from Truly Yarn.

WIPS

I also did quite a bit of work on my Thistle Thorn socks, the lovely pattern by Jane Burns from issue 11 of the Scheepjes Yarn Book.

I love these socks, the lace pattern is a dream to work, bit tricky when gusset decreasing at the same time though, and I only wish I had used yarn with a bit of nylon in it so they fit better.

The yarn I used is Cascade 220 fingering in the colour Goldenrod.

LAUNCHED

The October Socks have now launched and you can find out more about them here or buy the pattern on Ravelry or Etsy.

NEW

To celebrate the launch of the pattern I started a new pair of October Socks using a beautiful sock set from Biffsugar Yarns called Bon Anniversaire - I think it was a one-off to celebrate Alison’s 50th birthday. The yarn is another one of those colourways that really looks like October so I’m sure they are going to be really pretty socks. I’m keeping this socks in my pumpkin Ollie & Bella project bag.

I’m also using a new Ollie & Bella project bag for my next new project, this was from Sherrie’s latest update and I’m so happy that I managed to snag it. In this bag I’m keeping a pair of Bonfire Socks that I’m making along with my friends Michelle (@foreverautumn) and Emma (@emmacmakes). I’m using the leftover Harry Potter yarn from my So Faded top, it was a club colourway from A Homespun House and I’m using it together with Violet from Opal.

I also cast on Darren’s Christmas socks (I know) and he chose a proper army green for this year. It’s a sock yarn I’ve never used before by Novita, it’s called Venla and I’m using the shade Mugworth (372). I’m keeping this project in my beloved Barty bag from Coco & Flora.

I finally managed to get hold of a sweaters quantity of Briony’s Nails from Spectrum Fibre, it’s such a vibrant colour and I love it so much, will make a fabulous jazzy jumper, yes?

Enjoy the episode folks and enjoy all the yarn always.
