episode 135 | set adrift on memory bliss

EPISODE 135 SHOW NOTES

The prettiest finished socks, a giant, gopping shawl and the best 90’s song for my episode title - if you are not already in the know about PM Dawn’s classic 1991 song then click here for some pure 90’s joy with a dash of Spandau Ballet.

Betsy’s Butterfly Socks

FINISHED

I’ve finished my new design, Betsy’s butterfly socks using the amazing Betsy’s Socks yarn set specially dyed for me (and Betsy) by Shannon of Blue Fern Yarns. These shorty socks are worked fairly quickly with a contrast shadow wrap heel and toe with the applied bows (taken from a vintage Pam Dawson knitting book) which ended up looking more than butterflies than bows! Go figure.

I’m working on a second pair in white using the Aloe Sockwool I used for one of my pairs of 24 Days Socks. I’m going to work this pair with a different heel and with multi-coloured butterflies so there will be two options in the pattern.

If you would like to test these socks for me then email emma@potterandbloom.com and I will put you on the list.

Adrift Shawl in Peony

(ALMOST) FINISHED

I’m almost finished with my Easter shawl, the Adrift shawl by Veera Valimaki which is one of the projects on my #makenine2022mal list (the fifth item too, wahoooooo)! and available in Laine Magazine Issue 5 and also as a single pattern to buy.

It is a fabulously simple knit, although the moss stitch segments gave me the willies, and even though my yarn choice is a bit out of character. I’m using very old stash yarn, maybe even my oldest stash from 2016, Peony by Cosmic Strings.

It’s wildly outside of my comfort zone, Darren thinks it’s terrible ugly and I kinda agree, it hurts my eyes a bit (ha) but I find I’m strangely drawn to it nonetheless.

I have no idea why I like it so much but I think the test will be if I wear it or not though eh.

I think I’m almost finished with my crochet version of the 24 Days Cowl. I’ve stopped after the first blue stripe because I’m concerned that it will work up too long and be uncomfortable to wear, I need your advice on this one because I would dearly like it to have 24 stripes (to go with the name) but I’m willing to cut some colours out if that will make the cowl more wearable.

I’m working it up to be a fairly narrow tube but will offer bigger sizes in the pattern so it can be made to personal preference.

I’m using my DK weight yarn advent from Indie Yarn Club together with Stylecraft Special DK in White and a 4mm hook.

WIPS

My main wip these past two weeks have been my Easter rainbow socks, a very stress-free knit.

The yarn is Regia Pairfect Rainbow Stripes in the colour 1731 which is a bit hard to find in the UK, I have tried to find it but failed, do let me know if you can source this yarn anywhere.

NEW

I bought myself a lovely Easter present from Blue Fern Yarns, the bag and the yarn set are so lovely and Springy, Eastery themed. The beautiful bunny bag with the velvet bottom was made by Stitch Create Love and there are a couple of the sets still available on Etsy which you can find here.

If you want to be kept up to date about my product launches and discount codes, they are sent via my newsletter so subscribe and be the first to know about pattern launches etc, you can do so by filling in the form below, I’m not the most prolific of newsletter writers so you’ll never be inundated and you can of course unsubscribe at any time.

Enjoy the podcast folks and remember to stay happy and live free, growing vegetables is also a good idea.

Happy knitting.
