episode 133 | stepping stones
EPISODE 133 SHOW NOTES
Quite a sunny episode (so warm and lovely here in the UK) with a seedling tour (v. boring for those not into gardening though), and a surprise appearance by Maggie!
FINISHED
I finished the Stepping Stones DK weight socks.
They are not my best work. I messed up with my yarn management, making the leg section too long on the first sock, which led to me scrimping for yarn on the second sock and it turning out SO different in size. Yikes.
I’ve never done this before, it’s a bit weird but I think I know how to solve it. Betsy says that the second, smaller, sock fits better so I’m going to rip back the first sock to match.
The pattern is the Stepping Stones socks by Clara Parkes. It is a DK weight sock pattern from The Knitters Book of Socks and I made them using some gifted DK weight yarn from Truly Yarn in the colour Magic.
These are my third finished item from my #makenine2022mal list.
I’ve also finished, well almost, one of Betsy’s socks using the amazing Betsy’s Socks yarn set specially dyed for me (and Betsy) by Shannon of Blue Fern Yarns, I just have to work the pattern onto the socks which I’m a bit worried about but if it works, I think it will look amazing.
I’m also working on a second pair in white using the Aloe Sockwool I used for one of my pairs of 24 Days Socks. I’m going to work this pair with a different heel so there will be two options in the pattern.
WIPS
I am loving my Wool & Honey.
I could happily sit and knit on it all day. I love the pattern and the yarn, feeling very bright and happy about the whole thing really.
The pattern is one of those that looks super difficult but is actually easy and quite intuitive, very pleasing to knit on.
I’m using the recommended yarn, Brooklyn Tweed Loft, in the Cinnabar colourway, which I got for Christmas and absolutely love.
This is the fourth project from my #makenine2022mal.
NEW AND PLANS
I finally caved and bought some yarn (well it was from a destash so I’m helping someone out with clearing out their yarn stash), it is a beautiful bright red from Black Elephant called Red Riding Hood and I got it from my technical editor, Lynne Rowe’s destash page on instagram. Isn’t it lovely? I’m thinking of pairing it with something pink!!
Lynne also put in some super cute little balls of Scheepjes Metropolis and I feel inspired to make the new pattern from Summer Lee Design Co. The Little Dots Socks. The only thing that will probably stop me from making them is my aversion to colourwork and particularly in relation to socks.
I also saw the lovely Flutterby pattern by MHL Crochet Design on Ravelry and thought it was so lovely and very worthy of a mention because I know many of you like really difficult and intricate patterns - unlike me who’s brain is like mush - and I thought this was just the most brilliant crochet pattern I’ve seen in ages.
I’m also thinking of making the Kinda Magic socks from Wool & The Gang and Regia. They were a big thing a few years ago and I had bought a ball in all the excitement and then promptly put it in the back of a cupboard (of course). I think it might be amusing to make these on video (amusing or crazy) and so expect to see them soon. Or not. I dunno.
