episode 132 | distractions ahoy!

EPISODE 132 SHOW NOTES

Sorry for this distracted and rather unprofessional episode, trying to squeeze a quick episode into a busy weekend without a working husband is not the best! Not my best work, please forgive me.

Matchy Socks

FINISHED

I finished a pair of socks for Betsy using the leftover Studiomeez Storm sock set that I used to make Darren’s Christmas socks.

They are super cute.

She wouldn’t normally like blue socks but seeing as these match her Daddy’s socks I think she will love them.

I worked a plain pair of socks over 60sts (they were originally meant to be for me but I didn’t have enough yarn) on 2.25mm needles with a shadow wrap heel (my new favourite).

24 days cowl

I also finished my second sample of the 24 days cowl using just two colours.

I had to rip out the work I had done on this sample and start over again using a full skein of contrast colour (I had been imagining that I could complete a full cowl with just a mini skein)!

I used Stylecraft Special DK in the colour A Hint of Silver (1807) as my main colour and the rather fabulous Blue Blood from Harbour Crochet (now Indie Yarn Club) as my contrast colour. Both DK weight and worked on 3.25mm needles.

The sizing difference is shown below, needle size really makes a difference huh?

Inside out joy

It also looks marvellous inside out!

There is something about this pattern that just keeps on bringing me joy.

I had a fingering weight version on the needles (you can see it in episode 130 here) but I ripped it out after watching the episode because it really was quite hideous and for some reason I hadn’t realised!! :D

I will be making a 4ply/fingering weight version though, I think it will be good for the pattern to have all the different sizing options available, I will just have to pick different (better) colours won’t I?

You can buy the 24 days cowl pattern now on either Ravelry or Etsy depending on your preferred platform.

NEW

I’ve started a new design using the beautiful Betsy’s Socks yarn dyed especially for Betsy (and me) by Shannon of Blue Fern Yarns. The design I have in mind is pretty and very girly (very Betsy) and it requires me to first make a plain base for the applied pattern. Exciting springy things incoming.

I also started my next #makenine2022mal project, the Wool & Honey from Andrea Mowry. I swatched twice and still didn’t achieve Andrea’s gauge (girl knits tightly) so I’m working the pattern using needles one size down and making the medium size in the hopes of achieving a small size jumper.

Sounds confusing, yes?

I’m using the recommended yarn, Brooklyn Tweed Loft, in the Cinnabar colourway, which I got for Christmas and absolutely love.
