EPISODE 94 SHOW NOTES

Sugar Icing Socks

Sugar Icing Socks

FINISHED OBJECTS

I finished my shimmering Sugar Icing Socks, hurrah. These socks were my Christmas Eve cast on and the pattern is from from Sandra Paul (Cherry Heart).

I didn’t add in a contrast heel and toe, I feel like the socks are pretty enough and shimmery enough without them.

The yarn is Bottle Brush Christmas Trees on the gold stellina base from Dandelion & Dogwood.

HALF FINISHED

I also finished one of my Wych Elm socks after much faffing around, ripping back and a change of colour!

This new pattern has been on the needles since July 2020 and after much rejection, and a hideous green contrast heel, one sock is now finished.

I will be launching these socks around Easter time, just need to write up the pattern and make a second pair. I do need some testers though, so if you fancy testing them and if you have some nice speckled yarn to use, just let me know.

The name of the socks comes from the book The Wych Elm by Tana French.

WIPS

My WIPS this week include my Roll Neck Poncho from Sirdar in Haworth Tweed using the Yorkshire Stone colourway. I have now finished three full repeats and also discovered a mistake that I will not be fixing! Ha!

Viajante

Viajante

I’m also still working on my naughty Viajante, she’s so tricksy but I love her. This week I had to rip it back and re-do it twice because the increases as stated in the pattern didn’t work for me. I eventually got to a place where I’m doing my own version increase and it looks great. I’m using Malabrigo Lace in the Cognac colourway.

I also put quite a bit of work into my Granny Advent Blanket, I will be putting the pattern online this week as well as filming a tutorial for the teeny tiny granny squares.

The project is designed to be used with a yarn advent calendar (I am using one from 2019 from @biffsugaryarn) and to probably (definitely) take the whole year to make.

NEW AND NOTABLE

I started a new pair of socks for Betsy this week using the Popping Candy sock set from Woolly Mama Yarns. The pattern is a new zig zag design worked over 60 stitches and I swapped the neon yellow for some neon pink contrast as per Betsy’s request - although you can see that the neon yellow would really pull out those pops of yellow in the popping candy yarn.

I also started a pair of socks for Darren using my favourite discontinued yarn from Regia, the Pairfect stripes. The colourway is 7115 but I’m not sure if you can still find it anywhere.

Zig a Zig ahhhhhhhh

Zig a Zig ahhhhhhhh

I didn’t go out of my way to buy any yarn over the past two weeks but I surprisingly won a skein of pretty pink yarn from Shannon at Blue Fern Yarns.

I also snagged a de-stash bargain from Sharon @pinklimecrafts on instagram, it is some sparkly Fairy Lights yarn from Hedgerow Yarns.

And the February clubs from Woolly Mama Yarns arrived. I’m planning on getting the Sweet Tooth club every month on 4ply and alternating between 4ply and DK for the mini club so I can build up some stash for a project later this year.

The small stitch markers I mentioned on my Viajante are called RingOs from Fripperies & Bibelots.

The Christmas bauble stitch markers are from Blue Ammonite Designs on Etsy.

Enjoy the podcast folks, and don’t forget to shine bright like a diamond.
