episode 89 | sequin everything!
Well who wouldn’t want hundreds of tiny razors inside their socks?
EPISODE 89 SHOW NOTES
FINISHED OBJECTS
I’ve finished my giant rainbow blanket for Betsy.
This project is for the re-launch of my Spring Stripes pattern, a blanket pattern originally launched in 2016.
I used Stylecraft Special DK for this version in the White, Matador, Jaffa, Citron, Spring Green, Sherbert, Magenta and Fiesta colourways. I worked a plain border of white trebles because Betsy specifically asked for no pom poms (I’m not sure if this is allowed)!
I had never really liked the original sample (so hideous), also made using Stylecraft Special DK, and so this summer I thought that the pattern would look really nice made with a Scheepjes Whirl. So I used the Strawberries and Scream (757) colourway together with some plain white cottony acrylic yarn from Phildar, called Phil Mixte.
The stitch pattern comes from Linda Schapper’s Complete Book of Crochet Stitch Designs which is an absolute gem of a book if you are a stitch geek like me.
The pattern has been re-worked as a basic recipe with all the different options, although you can pretty much go wild with this pattern and create anything you like, I already have plans to make a yarn advent calendar version of the blanket. You can get the pattern for free on Ravelry, no code needed, throughout December and January. Enjoy.
FINISHED OBJECTS
I also finished my two colour Swords Socks sample and I love them. I used the Florence Sock Set from @biffsugaryarns which is just lovely and the perfect colours for autumn and I’m keeping this project in my lovely autumn bag from Gina @rosiebulldesigns. I like both versions, the single colour version is made using Drops Nord in the Pearl Grey Mix (03) colourway and they are super soft and woolly.
The Sword Socks pattern is now available on Ravelry click here to buy. You can get it with a 50% discount for the rest of December using the code SWORDS50.
HALF FINISHED OBJECTS
I have finished one of my Bonfire Socks using the Bonfire Night Mystery Skein from @biffsugaryarns. I paired the yarn with a solid black from Opal and I used a modified seed stitch pattern for the texture on the sock. I’m keeping the project in my new ‘Barty’ bag from Eva @cocoandflora.
WORKS IN PROGRESS
I’m still working on and loving my Kinross shawl from the latest Rowan magazine Rowan 68 and it is very soothing for my soul because the pattern is so simple and the yarn is so soft.
I love the pattern by Georgia Farrell and I especially love the yarn, Rowan Classic Alpaca in the colours Cinnamon, Soft Satin and Willow.
I am also still working on Betsy’s new welly socks. I am working a German short row heel for these socks and the yarn is Rico Superba Vintage in the Pink Mix colourway.
NEW AND NOTABLE
I started making a new pair of Luxury Sparkle Socks (I know) using a mixture of sequins, 4ply and mohair lace.
I will share the basic pattern for these socks soon but in the meantime I am using a lovely 4ply sock yarn called Golden Gate from Miss Moffat Yarns on Etsy, together with the fabulous King Cole Cosmos in the Copper (1102) colourway and Drops Kid Silk in the Rust (33) colourway.
I am using 2.5mm needles.
I am also working on a new hat for a Christmas present. It is the Classic Ribbed Hat by Purl Soho and I’m using Rico Baby Dream DK Uni in the Mustard (009) colourway and 3.75mm fixed circular needles.
I also started my annual West Yorkshire Spinners Christmas Socks, this year I’m using the Fairy Lights colourway with the added sparkle and I’m pairing it with Cayenne Pepper also from WYS. I’m just working my standard vanilla sock on 2.25mm needles and keeping them in my favourite Christmas project bag from Made By Rachel on Etsy.
And finally, I started making Percy Poinsettia from the new Christmas collection from Lydia Tresselt who is also known as Lalylala.
FORWARD PLANNING
I bought some new yarn from a lovely new to me Etsy shop called Zakami. I bought the Carmen and Ra colourways.
I am planning on starting the wonderful Viajante Shawl pattern by Martina Behm on 1 January 2021. I was inspired to make this after watching Kiko’s Knitting Podcast. Kiko has a yarn shop in Germany and also a german podcast so she films two versions every week (how amazing is that), and both knits and crochets at an amazing rate which is why I like her podcast so much!
Let me know if you would like to join me for a 2021 knitalong because I’d like the company and I’d love to see all the colours everyone choses.
I am using Malabrigo Lace in the Cognac colourway.
Enjoy the podcast folks, and don’t forget to be awesome.
