episode 85 | moo!
Episode 85 and introducing Moo (she’s so adorable, fluffy and cute!) plus some other stuff I’ve been working on and thinking about.
EPISODE 85 SHOW NOTES
FINISHED OBJECTS
I finished my No Frills Sweater by PetiteKnit back in April or May (judging by the Mock Orange flowers on this bush it was May), and I like it.
Not crazy, crazy about it but I like the simplicity of the pattern and I would like to try it again using DK weight, commercial yarn so I don’t have to be alternating yarn every row and managing multiple balls of yarn!
I used Malabrigo Sock in the Pearl colourway and Rowan Kidsilk Haze also in the Pearl colourway.
I also used the recommended needles.
WORK IN PROGRESS
I am nearly finished with my car socks that aren’t car socks. I’m using Regia Pairfect in the Astrup 9094 colourway and 2.25mm needles over 64 stitches. Much finagling has taken place to get them to look how I want them to look but I still love the ‘industrial’ sock yarn, it is definitely my favourite.
I’ve just started (and am loving) a Birds of a Feather shawl. It’s a pattern by Andrea Mowry that involves colour blocking fingering weight yarn with lace weight mohair and it’s such a joy to knit even though I seem to be one stitch short at the end of each section!
I’m using the Cosmic Strings yarn that I bought in 2017 and don’t like (ha!), I think it’s called Rose Garden and I’m pretty sure they don’t do it anymore, together with Rowan Kidsilk Haze in the very pretty, pale pink Grace 580 colourway. I’m kinda hoping that the colour blocking detracts from the garish Rose Garden colourway but anyhoo, in Episode 45 of my podcast I talked about how I was going to use it for this particular project and I love that three years later I finally am!
Also, my rather delightfully expressive stitch marker is from Kathryn @crafternoontreats I got them a while ago (it’s a set) so not sure if she is still offering them in her shop but she has lots of others that you might like so check her shop out here.
Other things that I’m working on include my next tarot socks, the Swords Socks and a complete overhaul of my Spring Stripes Blanket pattern. I had never really liked the original sample, although weirdly we use it quite a lot around the house, and I wanted to include some new options and so Betsy asked for a rainbow version et voila!
I am using all the rainbow colours from Stylecraft Special DK together with the White; Matador, Jaffa, Citron, Spring Green, Sherbert, Magenta and Fiesta.
PATTERNS LAUNCHED
I’ve launched two patterns whilst in lockdown, one crochet and one knitting.
The Adelaster Shawl is a simple crochet shawl pattern that can be made in two sizes with either 1 x 100g or 2 x 100g skeins depending on the size you prefer (me, I prefer the large size). Because I launched that back in July and some of you may have missed it you can get a 50% discount for the rest of October by using the code POTTERCAST50 on Ravelry, click here to buy.
I have also launched my Cups Socks pattern. They can also be made two different ways; with a single colour or with two (I prefer the two colour pair) and you can also get a 50% podcast discount for them by using the same code. Both codes expire at midnight (GMT) on the 31 October 2020. Enjoy!
NEW AND NOTABLE
My Six Wives Shawl was translated into French by Emma of the Tricolibri podcast on YouTube, you can find out more about the story here.
I purchased lots of lovely yarn from Alison at Biffsugar Yarns. I want to make another knitted Caravan of Love shawl and so I bought Maple and Gone to Earth in her MCN base for a bit of luxury. I also bought the Pippin and Florence Sock Sets for some happy autumn sock knitting plans.
I also love the new Rowan 68 book. The front cover is so captivating, makes me feel all the autumn feels and I love Georgia Farrell’s Kinross shawl design and also the Rowan Alpaca Classic yarn colours Cinnamon, Willow and Soft Satin. I am dithering about making it because of the slightly odd stranding sections but whilst filming the podcast I seem to have made up my mind about it and will start it asap.
Enjoy the podcast folks, and don’t forget to be awesome.
