EPISODE 118 SHOW NOTES

I’m in a different place for this episode, a bit weird for this old creature of habit and the lighting isn’t great so apologies for that and I hope you enjoy the episode anyway.

FINISHED

I’m wearing my finished Sweater No.9 in this episode and I really love this jumper although I think I’ll love it a whole lot more once I’ve washed and blocked it. It’s one of those finished items that demands to be worn immediately so I make no apologies for wearing it in its unblocked state.

I used Cascade 220 Heathers in the Pumpkin Spice colourway held together with Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair in the Rust colourway. I used 7mm needles (5.5mm for the ribbing) and worked the size small - I would usually make a size medium but the ease was huge on this jumper and even the size small is a bit too big for me, especially on the arms which are my least favourite bit of the jumper.

I used just over three and a half skeins of the Cascade 220 and around three balls of the mohair silk.

Overall I love it, it’s very relaxed and looks great with jeans so I think I’ll be wearing it a lot over the coming months plus it was a super quick and easy make, definitely suited to a beginner knitter.

NEW WIPS

I’ve got three new Christmas projects on the needles and I love them all.

Firstly I have a pretty pair of advent socks for Betsy. She chose the 24 ‘unicorn themed’ balls of yarn to go in the bag (mainly in pinks, purples and blues) so she’s much happier than previous years where I’ve picked the yarn scraps. The deep buckety bag (perfect for storing lots of minis) is from Dandelion & Dogwood.

I’m working ten rows of each colour over 60 stitches on 2.25mm needles.

My second pair of Christmas socks are my traditional West Yorkshire Spinners Christmas socks, I love this new Vintage Tinsel colourway from WYS and I’m just working a plain sock over 64 stitches on 2.25mm needles and taking this bag with me everywhere I go in December and especially in the car.

My third and final pair of Christmas sock are another pair of 24 Days Socks using my advent swap from lovely Amy @noblecharactercrafts. We decided to do a swap this year and it’s so lovely to open a parcel from Amy each day to see what colour she’s chosen. I’m keeping these socks in my Coco & Flora bag and I’m using Aloe Sockwool in White (100) for the main colour which is a slightly brighter white colour than I’m used to but I think it goes quite well with the vivid blues and dark greens that Amy has so far chosen, these colours are:

Day 1. Yarn Bee Color Idyll in Lapis Stone

Day 2. Sweet Fiber in Something Blue

Day 3. A Homespun House in an unknown colourway

Day 4. Knit Picks Stroll in Midnight

You can buy the 24 Days Socks pattern on Ravelry or Etsy, depending on your personal preference, and if you want to see some different colourways you can view the hashtag #24dayssocks on instagram or look at the different projects on Ravelry.

24 Days Socks

This year my bought yarn advent was from @indieyarnclub and I got the DK weight version.

Katy’s colours are super vivid and bright and I love her obsession with the colour orange!

And finally I am planning on making a hat from The Shetland Trader and will be using Jamieson & Smith for the first time so wish me luck on the itchy and scratchy front, I think I’m going to need it!

Finally, all my product launches and discount codes are sent via my newsletter so if you want to subscribe and be the first to know about pattern launches etc, you can do so by filling in the form below, I’m not the most prolific of newsletter writers so you’ll never be inundated and you can of course unsubscribe at any time.

Enjoy the podcast folks and remember to switch off that negative energy box, aka the telly, and enjoy knitting instead.
