EPISODE 103 SHOW NOTES
In this episode I’m feeling quite pleased with myself after completing half of my first ever stranded project.
HALF FINISHED OBJECTS
I made an Underwing Mitt, hurrah! A single mitt and it felt like sitting a maths exam but still…hurrah!
This splendid pattern is by Erica Heusser and has been much loved and made by many and whilst I’ve always wanted a pair, I pretty much always found an excuse not to make them so this year I put them on my Make Nine list to make sure that I couldn’t back out.
They are living in my Blue Anemone project bag from Dandelion & Dogwood and I tried to match Erica’s sample colours because I love how they look so I’m using Madeline Tosh Merino Light in Thunderstorm (black), Cascade Heritage in Snow (5618) and a leftover mini from the Autumnal Berries mini set from Birdstreet Yarn that didn’t make it into my knitted Six Wives Shawl.
WIPS
I almost finished my first car sock using the new Downtown sock yarn from Scheepjes in the Baker’s Corner colourway (413) and the only reason I didn’t finish it in time for the podcast was because we’ve been watching the fantastic Midnight Diner on Netflix which is subtitled so not helpful for knitting but heartwarming to watch and delightfully odd too, well worth a watch.
I’m also working on my second pair of Zig Zag Socks, a new pattern that is currently being tested.
For this sample I’m using Scheepjes Metropolis in the Bangalore (052) colourway for the main body of the sock and Bogota (050) for the contrast.
It’s unbelievable to me how much better this pattern looks using a solid colour yarn.
WIPS
I’ve also accidentally started the back section of my vintage Sirdar cardigan, I was supposed to be casting on the second sleeve so not sure how that happened, ha!
The good news is that I’ve now memorised the pattern and so I can sit and easily knit on it when watching telly etc.
The pattern is a vintage one from Sirdar No. 5952 that I snagged on Ebay and the yarn I’m using is Stylecraft Life DK in the Bark colourway (discontinued).
NEW PATTERN
I finally launched my Coins Socks knitting pattern on Friday, and it’s the final pattern in my tarot series of socks that I started last year using Drops Nord. The Coins (or Pentacles as they are more commonly known) are made using Drops Nord in the Goldenrod colourway on 2.5mm and 2.25mm needles - the patterned ribbing section works up much nicer with 2.5mm needles.
NEW & NOTABLE
Just one new skein this week, another excellent de-stash purchase from Sharon @pinklimecraft from a French yarn dyer that I’ve never heard of before called tot le matin. Very pretty it is too.
Enjoy the podcast folks, and don’t forget to question everything for all is not as it seems. Happy knitting, happy crocheting, happy hugging and smiling and being human again. Peace!
