episode 64 | hanging rock designs vol.2
This podcast episode is entirely devoted to my new Hanging Rock Designs which launch today and are available to buy here.
In this episode I discuss the patterns, construction and yarn related to the designs as well as talking about the discount code and launch giveaways that are running on YouTube and Instagram separately. All the technical stuff is included in this post but if you want to know more about my inspiration, my background and how I’ve incorporated that into my designs you can find out all about that here.
Episode 64 Show Notes
PATTERNS
Shimla Clutch
The front cover star and the most colourful of the designs. Shimla is a medium sized clutch bag constructed using Drops Paris with the ruffles and tassels constructed using Rico Baby Cotton Soft. You will need a zip for this project and you’ll also learn how to make multi-bound tassels with a dog brush!
The idea for brushing the yarn for the tassels comes from this wall hanging project from the Honestly WTF blog by Erica Chan Coffman.
Mayura Socks
Made from Crafternoon Treats Poldale sock yarn in the colourway Vintage Lace.
The pattern is 64 stitches over 2.25mm needles and they are worked from the cuff down. The vintage pattern used on the front is called Old Shale and the one on the back is Open Twisted Rib. My sock patterns always include my favoured heel flap and gusset but you can substitute your personal favourite heel in if you prefer.
Ambala Shawl
A long, lace shawl made from 4 balls of DMC Petra 5 crochet cotton thread in the shade Ecru. This mercerised yarn is cool and shiny to work with and perfect for a summer project. The Ambala pattern uses the vintage Pineapple Chevron stitch which you can find in many vintage crochet stitch dictionaries, with a simple chevron stitch pattern created by me to fit in with the pineapples.
The lace weight version I made (that didn’t work out) used Madelinetosh Prairie in the colour As Ever.
Ambala Remixed
A plainer version of the Ambala shawl that uses a gradient yarn cake instead (hurrah) and a modified version of the Pineapple Chevron stitch all the way through - this one is just a joy to hook because there’s no counting and the yarn cake does all the work for you.
I used a Cotton Flowers yarn cake which I don’t think are available anymore but you can use a Scheepjes Whirl or a Rico Cotton Degrade or any other the other amazing 3ply (or 4ply) gradient yarns that are available right now.
You get the Ambala remixed pattern free with the ebook and the Ambala shawl pattern.
DISCOUNT CODE
All the patterns have a 50% discount for the first two weeks of May (ending midnight GMT on 15/05/19) and the code for this discount which can only be used on Ravelry is BELTANE50.
