EPISODE 112 SHOW NOTES
In this episode I’m wearing my gorgeous and highly underrated Betsy jumper, a pattern from Pat Menchini that was originally in Knitting Magazine, Issue 187. I made it using the suggested yarn which is King Cole Indulge Chunky in the Lavender colourway which I love (weirdly).
FINISHED OBJECT
I finished the ribbed hat I was making using the lovely Jewelspun from Sirdar in the Sandstone Sunset colourway.
I really rather like this hat, I think it’ll be the hat I wear the most this winter because I really love the gathered crown and in fact I’m going to make a second hat using the same ball (it’s a gigantic 200g) and maybe add some pom-poms (or maybe not).
I will write up the pattern and add it to the website soon.
FINISHED OBJECTS
I made some more lovely pine cones using the fabulous pattern from Jennifer Olivarez in Interweave Crochet, Fall 2020. I love this pattern and have now made four pine cones using the following yarns:
Dark Red - Sirdar Country Classic (aran weight) in the Port colourway.
Brown - Stylecraft Life DK in the Bark colourway.
Mauve - Stylecraft Special DK in the Mushroom colourway.
Orange - Stylecraft Special DK in the Copper colourway.
I also made my first acorn and I am in love, I must make hundreds of them, right now!
The pumpkins are made last year are the Little Rustic Pumpkins and you can find the free pattern here.
WIPS
I also did quite a bit of work on my Sweater No. 9 from My Favourite Things Knitwear.
This is a lovely chunky, raglan jumper with a fabulous high neck and I think I’ve picked the most perfect autumn colour for it.
I’m using Cascade 220 Heathers in the Pumpkin Spice colourway (2453) which I love SO freaking much, held together with Soft Silk Mohair from Knitting for Olive in the Rust colourway.
I’m knitting the sweater on 7mm needles so it is flying!
THE GREAT BRITISH SHAWLOGRAPHY
I finished Clue 1 of the 2021 Westknits mystery knitalong (MKAL2021) and I am in love with it/not in love with it in equal measures! Ha!
I love the originality, the unknown, the pushing of my stubborn knitting boundaries, it’s like an exciting art project and I’m enjoying that aspect of it and weirdly I’m quite liking not being in control.
I’m not that keen on the way my colours have worked up though.
If you asked me to describe it, the word I would choose is lairy and if I had perhaps peeked ahead before starting I maybe would have placed my colours differently.
But weirdly I actually don’t mind how obnoxious it looks. I always knew that I wouldn’t wear this shawl and am only really making it for the experience anyway so I’m going to enjoy it and be happy in the knowledge that it’s going to make great wall art in the end!
The Great British indie dyed yarn I’m using for this project are:
Raven Red from Beehive Yarns
Carmen from Zakami
Like Gold Mustard from Dusty Dimples
Peach Melba from Birdstreet UK
Blossom Honey from Black Elephant
The bag that I’m storing this project in is the Plystre Project Backpack which I purchased here.
