episode 110 | reverse stockinette with crinkly yarn

Wych Elm Socks

EPISODE 110 SHOW NOTES

A slightly chaotic episode with all manner of scaffolders, hedge removers, husbands and drinking dogs trying to distract me from my purpose!

FINISHED OBJECTS

I finished my revamped Whitehorse sweater and I kinda like it a tiny bit more than before, ha!

I ripped out both sleeves and re-knit them to include decreases all the way down, full length and with longer cuffs.

I do think the sleeves look a lot better, an awful lot better (see original pic below) but the messy look of reverse stockinette is only highlighted when using crinkly, ripped back yarn.

I also had quite the problem with my tension, knitting one sleeve to a much tighter tension than the other even though I ripped it back and started over again and I think this makes one of the sleeves ever so slightly shorter than the other. However, I will wear it more now, I do feel sure of that and lets see how it holds up in the washing machine eh??

The yarn I used is a discontinued Rowan yarn called Rowan Cashsoft DK in the Dusty colourway. I also used 4mm needles.

I also made a second pine cone using the wonderful pattern from Jennifer Olivarez in Interweave Crochet. This time in DK weight yarn and with a 4mm hook. I used Stylecraft Life DK in the Bark colourway - which I believe is now discontinued.

WIPS

I’ve almost finished the first of Darren’s Christmas socks, I feel like I might actually get these wrapped and under the tree this year.

I’m using the Storm sock set from Studiomeez and knitting a plain stockinette sock over 72 stitches on 2.25mm needles using the magic loop method.

These socks are living in my la cerise sur le gateau project bag which I bought from Beautiful Knitters.

NEW

I have randomly bought some yarn from Flying Tiger - not a place I would usually expect to be buying yarn from but sometimes these strange things happen, right? It’s chunky (40m per 50g), green and recommended to be knit on 6mm needles. Can I find a pattern to knit with it? No I cannot. So I’ve been looking through Ann Budd’s book The Knitters Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters which works out all the formulas for you for different types and shapes of top down sweaters.

THANKS

I had two lovely Nutkin related parcels in the post this week.

The first came from Claire (@mrsrobinsonscupcakes on instagram) who was able to photocopy the Nutkin pattern from Laine for me and who also couldn’t resist enabling me further along my wax melt journey with some Ethel & Co goodies - I love them!

I also had a parcel from Mikki (@mikkilou2905 on instagram) who was able to work some Ebay magic and actually snag me a copy of Laine magazine, Issue 5 and it is SO lovely. Not only do I love the Nutkin pattern but I also love the Adrift shawl pattern by Veera Valimaki and now that has gone on the list too! Much enabling was done this week and I love it!

OTHER MENTIONS

Thank you for all the votes for the Stephen West mystery knitalong colours, Team Red did win - although I think most of you knew that I preferred the red anyway and it starts this coming Friday, the 8th October, so I’m looking forward to sharing that story with you over the coming weeks.

This week we watched Squid Game on Netflix. Amazingly original but hugely horrific so watch at your peril. You have been warned!
