episode 108 | woolen pine and no.9
EPISODE 108 SHOW NOTES
Much waffle about the increasing length of my episodes, ironic that I spend so much bloody time talking about it eh?? Hoping to film a bit more often, at least for the time being.
In this episode I am wearing my Bark Sweater which is a super pattern from Sidsel Sanglid that I made in late 2018 using Madelinetosh Merino Light in the Thunderstorm colourway.
NEW AND FINISHED OBJECT
This is a new project because I was completely sold on this image from Interweave Crochet of a basket full of autumnal goodies designed by Jennifer Olivarez.
I saw these in the Fall 2020 edition of the magazine which you can buy here in either a print or digital format.
They are just lovely, I want the whole basket on my dining table right now!
I have made just one lonely pinecone so far, there will be more, this first guy is made using Sirdar Country Classic in the Port colourway.
Sirdar Country Classic is an aran weight yarn with really nice stitch definition so it looks lovely worked up for a project like this. I also used a 5mm hook.
Whilst obsessing about autumnal home decor I saw these lovely pumpkins from CaMaRose the Danish knitwear brand, and I thought that they would be a pretty addition to my collection. I think that once I’ve finished with the Autumn Medley pattern I will attempt some pumpkins too.
NEW
I’ve started making my Sweater No.9 by My Favourite Things Knitwear and am smitten.
I’m using Cascade 220 Heathers in the Pumpkin Spice (2453) colourway held together with Knitting For Olive silk mohair in Rust which I bought from Beautiful Knitters, a UK stockist of Knitting For Olive.
I got gauge with the recommended needles (although slightly less rows) and am finding the pattern to be super quick (7mm needles y’all), super soft and easy on the eye too! Wahoo!!
I’m keeping this project in my beautiful linen project bag from Yael and the Bags (huge apologies to Yael for consistently getting her name wrong), she does have a wonderful eye for detail and makes the loveliest bags although I think you have to be on her mailing list to custom order nowadays instead of her listing them on Etsy.
RE-WORKING
I was watching Marilisa’s Girl Meets Yarn Vlogmas from December 2018 (I know, it’s September, don’t judge me) and whilst watching her, she was at one point also watching me (weird but stick with me), and in the podcast she was watching of mine I was wearing my Whitehorse sweater by Caitlin Hunter….phew I got there in the end!
I never wear this jumper because I hate the sleeves (I might have mentioned that a few times), and I had popped it in a bag with a view to re-doing the sleeves once I had found the final ball of the yarn used that had been put somewhere ‘safe’ for this purpose.
And I did find the ball of yarn, it is a discontinued yarn from Rowan called Cashsoft DK in the Dusty colourway, so I set about ripping out one of the sleeves and re-knitting it longer and slimmer and I’m much happier.
Although I did realise that I don’t much like the jumper anyway; it’s too big, the reverse stockinette looks messy and the sleeves still look a bit odd (might just be me), so I’m going to chuck it in the washing machine, see if that shrinks it a bit (and if not then it’s going in the dryer), and if I still don’t wear it then at least I’ve given it a good try.
PLANS AND THINGS
A big thank you to Katrina who was able to buy me the Pixel Mitts pattern. She lives in Australia and was able to go where many of us Brits couldn’t, online at least anyway, and so I will be able to make the mitts and am sending Katrina a parcel of loveliness across the many oceans between us as a thank you.
I also had a little dramatic Ebay moment when trying to snag a copy of Laine Magazine Issue 5. There was a huge scrabble to buy this one and only copy available on the whole internet and it ended up with me forgetting that I was in the race (typical) and a bidding war taking place with the winner having to pay over £35!! Blimey.
And I only want the magazine for the one pattern, ha!
I want to make the fabulous Nutkin pattern from Clare Mountain-Manipon but discovered that not only is Laine 5 missing from my library, but the pattern still can’t be downloaded individually (sometimes it takes a while).
So if anyone has that issue and wants to sell it or is happy to share the pattern with me, I would be most grateful. Mwah.
AND FINALLY…
I bought some lovely yarn from Beth at Beehive Yarns for a project that I will talk about soon.
This is the Raven Red colourway on her Audrey sock base and Beth does 50g skeins for most of her colourways which is quite handy if you only need small amounts of a particular colour and also if the colour you want isn’t in stock at 100g.
The colour is so lovely, I think I might want to make a jumper with this red, what do you think? Fancy huh?
Enjoy the podcast folks and remember to love and hug one another lots and always. Let no government, media organisation or ‘celebrity’ tell you who is good and who is bad, we are all one and in this lies our strength.
Peace, love and happy knitting or crocheting to you all.
