episode 102 | summer breezing
EPISODE 102 SHOW NOTES
In this episode I am wearing my second (gold) version of the Sea Breeze Tank Top by Grace @forthefrills which I finished this week. I made the first version, shown above, last summer in Rowan Denim Revive in the Darkness colourway, and I wear it quite a lot in the summer with shorts.
FINISHED OBJECTS
Because I liked that version, I wanted to try another and this one has turned out more lightweight and therefore probably more suited for holiday situations and not a cold, wet summer in Blighty.
I started this version last year and found it in the bottom of a basket a few weeks ago (story of my life)! This version is made using Berlingo from Bergere de France in the sable colourway. Berlingo is a DK weight cotton/polyester mix with scrumptious metallic thread running through it - I am a total sucker for anything gold and sparkly so obviously I was sold.
I also finished two items from my Make Nine list for 2021. Hurrah!
The first were the No-heel Spiral Socks from La Maison Rililie which I made for Betsy using my neon birthday yarn from Twinkknits.
Its a free pattern which you can find here and is super easy and relaxing to knit on. I think I will shortly be making another pair.
I also finished my my Apidae Socks from my Make Nine list 2021. They are a super pretty slip stitch pattern from Shara Lambeth @shara_made that recommend using 2.5mm needles because slipped stitches usually make up a stiffer fabric. I did chance it by using 2.25mm needles, because I don’t like the fit of 2.5mm’s and luckily for me it all worked out perfectly.
I used Hedgerow Yarns Fairy Lights yarn that I bought in a de-stash on instagram as well as a touch of bright pink yarn left over from a pair of socks that I made for Betsy using a Woolly Mama Yarns sock set.
Both of my beautiful project bags are from Eva at Coco & Flora on Etsy, you can find her shop here.
WIPS
I’ve started a second sample for my new Zig Zag Sock pattern using a solid colour yarn and they look a whole lot better in a solid colour, so much better, can’t even believe it.
I am using Scheepjes Metropolis in the Bangalore colourway for the main body of the sock (such a pretty pink) and the Bogota colourway for the contrast. I’m also using 2.25mm needles and this is a 60st sock pattern.
Let me know if you are interested in testing these socks for me and I will be sending out the pattern this week.
I’m also working on a new pair of car socks using the new Downtown sock yarn from Scheepjes in the Baker’s Corner colourway and I’m determined not to fanny around too much with heel/toe contrasting colours and just let these socks do what they want to - we shall see how that turns out eh?
WIPS
I’ve finished a round of my Lockdown Blanket, now that I have the blanket in a rectangular shape I am working in rounds until I reach the size I want. This is a free pattern which you can find here.
And I’ve moved on to my second skein for my Viajante, another of my Make Nine’s for this year. Now that I’ve reached a sort of rhythm with this project I can happily sit and watch the football (I know!) whilst knitting a few rounds, I love the colour but just wish it wasn’t quite so stripey. The yarn I’m using is Malabrigo Lace in the Cognac colourway and the Viajante pattern is by Martina Behm.
WIP FAIL…AGAIN
My neon grey sock design has failed for the second time and now I’m perilously close to abandoning them to the basket of doom! We shall see.
MAKE NINE 2021 HALF WAY UPDATE
So I’ve now finished two of my nine projects and I’m currently working on three more. This week I bought the Underwing Mitts pattern so that it can be my next cast on and that leaves three projects to be started.
NEW & NOTABLE
I received my June club from Woolly Mama Yarns and it’s super pretty.
Enjoy the podcast folks, and don’t forget to question everything for all is not as it seems. Happy knitting, happy crocheting, happy hugging and smiling and being human again. Peace!
