EPISODE 107 SHOW NOTES

It’s back to school time and my favourite time of the year so I’ve gone full fall y’all and have lots of lovely caramel and pumpkin themed projects planned for the coming autumnal months.

FINISHED OBJECT

I finished the Stockholm Slipover and I love it, think it will be a fairly useful garment for my wardrobe.

I used Sirdar Saltaire in the Mole (307) colourway which is a heavier weight yarn than required for the pattern but I still think it worked out well. Although I think making a smaller size would have been a better idea, I made the size M and used 4 x 50g balls and the yarn is lovely and soft and didn’t seem to be too terribly itchy.

The Stockholm Slipover is one of my nine projects as part of Amy’s (@noblecharactercrafts) make along using the #makenine2021mal hashtag on instagram.

For the Italian bind off I watched this tutorial video by Suzanne Bryan (I love her)!

HALF FINISHED

I’ve finished one of Betsy’s Strawberry Socks and she loves them, in particular she loves the yarn because it isn’t so woolly.

I’m using the new Footsie yarn from King Cole in the Strawberry colourway, such a fabulous yarn and the acrylic mix (so NO wool in this yarn at all) is actually quite lovely, Betsy says so too.

WIPS

I am working quite a lot on my new design, the Princess of Polka Dots by Betsy Potter, aged 8 :)

It’s very enjoyable and much more of a yarn eater than I would have thought, I’ve already used 3 x 100g of the white yarn, I’m enjoying making the blanket and think it will be finished sooner than I originally thought.

When I launch the pattern you will receive priority notification if you are subscribed to my mailing list which you can sign up for using the form below, I’m not overly ambitious with my emails, you might get one every two weeks or so and you can of course unsubscribe at any time.

PLANS

As mentioned I won’t be making the Pixel Mitts anymore because I can’t seem to buy the pattern but I am making the Simple Autumn Mittens which is a free pattern on Ravelry from Hjth.

I’m also planning on making a Riddari (probably next year) for Darren. He bought me the 150 Scandinavian Knitting Designs book from Mary Jane Mucklestone.

Sweet Tooth Yarn Club 2021

Sweet Tooth Yarn Club 2021

I bought this year’s Christmas yarn from West Yorkshire Spinners, this year the theme is vintage tinsel and I think they’re going to look lovely. When you buy the yarn you also receive a free pattern from WYS and Winwick Mum.

I received the August Sweet Tooth Yarn Club from Woolly Mama Yarns, last month’s theme was Gum Drops.

I also bought a brilliant pink holo bag from H&M.

AUTUMN PLANS

I’m planning on making Sweater No.9 by My Favourite Things Knitwear and will be casting it on this week because there is a knit-along for this pattern being run by My Favourite Things on instagram starting on Sunday 5th September, good timing eh?

I am going to be using Cascade 220 Heathers in the Pumpkin Spice (2453) colourway held together with Knitting For Olive silk mohair in Rust which I bought from Beautiful Knitters, a UK stockist of Knitting For Olive.

I had originally planned on using De Rerum Natura Gilliatt in the Caramel colourway but it looked too cool next to the Rust colourway of the silk mohair. I will probably use the Gilliatt to make the Weekender by Andrea Mowry because it really has been in my stash for too long now.

MORE PLANS

I also fancy making the Shifty from Andrea Mowry - isn’t it lovely. I was inspired to make this 2019 pattern by Kaitlyn Hering who has a knitted the most beautiful version of this pattern which you can see on her podcast here.

The original is made using the fabulous Dyed in the Wool yarn from Spincycle Yarn based in the US but at $32 dollars a skein and being a whole ocean away I realised I would have to find a closer and much cheaper alternative.

So I researched what other people used for their Shifty and discovered that the Zauberball Crazy from Schoppel Wolle and am planning on using them (I’m not sure which ones yet) together with Drops Nord in the Light Beige Mix (07) colourway.

Eva from Coco & Flora sent me some lovely wax melts from a company on Etsy called Organico.

Emma from Blue Ammonite (who makes the lovely stitch markers) has her debut novel out now, her DEBUT NOVEL!!! She is a total star and her book is called The Dark and I’m reading it right now so can tell you that its totally awesome, I’m so happy for Emma.

Enjoy the podcast folks and remember to love one another, don’t let the government or the media tell you who to love, adore and hug. We are all in this together and we mustn’t let ourselves become divided.

Peace, love and happy knitting or crocheting to you all.
