episode 106 | hello new projects

Wych Elm Socks

EPISODE 106 SHOW NOTES

I’ve had a great few weeks, started lots of new projects, which always makes me happy, and managed to launch a new pattern and work on quite a few existing projects too.

FINISHED OBJECTS

I finished my fabulously soft car socks (socks that I take with me in the car to knit on when I’m waiting for things, usually Betsy), they are super, super, super soft (have I mentioned that already) and made using the new Downtown sock yarn from Scheepjes in the Bakers Corner (413) colourway.

I chose to utilise the main colour for the heel, I wound off and tied together lots of the cream stripes, and yes it was a nightmare, I also did this for the toes but I wish I’d started the toe a little earlier because I think it looks a little ‘short’ if that makes sense.

PATTERN NEWS

I launched my new Zigzaggy Socks pattern, they are very fabulous and have been worn a lot this past week (yes I know it’s August!), you can buy the pattern now on either Ravelry or Etsy for £2.00. If you are subscribed to my mailing list you would have received priority notification of the launch plus a discount which is only for subscribers. If you want to be notified in future, you can sign up by using the form below, I’m not overly ambitious with my emails, you might get one every two weeks or so and you can of course unsubscribe at any time.

WIPS

I finished the back section of my vintage Sirdar cardigan, so now I have one sleeve and the back section finished and have just started on the second sleeve. It’s a lovely pattern and one of my make nine projects for 2021. I’m using Stylecraft Life DK in the Bark colourway which I think is now discontinued and 4mm needles. The pattern is worked in five sections and then seamed together at the end.

WIPS

I’ve also made a bit of progress on my Viajante.

This is a lovely pattern by Martina Behm, also on my make nine list for 2021, and I am making it using Malabrigo Lace in the Cognac colourway (also discontinued now I think). I have four 50g skeins and I’m halfway through skein number two.

I also worked another round on my Miley Hexi blanket, I’m making this using Scheepjes Catona in a variety of lovely bronzey colours together with my main colour of Topaz (179). Some of the other colours I’m using are: Ginger Gold (383), Moon Rock (254), Petal Peach (263), Hazelnut (503), Saffron (249), Rose Wine (316) and Linen (505).

You can find the free pattern for the Miley Hexi motif here.

NEW PROJECTS

I’ve started a few new projects, two new pairs of socks that are both very exciting - well the yarn is anyway, the socks are just my bog standard vanilla socks which is always good to work when your yarn is outstanding.

The first pair are my Strawberry Socks for Betsy. I’m using the new Footsie yarn from King Cole in the Strawberry colourway.

They speak for themselves don’t they?

Such a fabulous yarn and the acrylic mix (so NO wool in this yarn at all) is actually quite lovely; feels cools and comfortable, I think Betsy is going to love them.

The second pair are some Christmas socks for Darren using the amazing Storm sock set from Studiomeez in Belgium.

I also started the Stockholm Slipover using Sirdar Saltaire in the Mole (307) colourway. I’m loving the construction of this tank top - here in the UK we call this a tank top, in the US I expect you would call it a vest - and I think it will be finished fairly soon. The yarn is lovely and soft and hopefully not terribly itchy because of the acrylic and nylon mixed together with the alpaca. The Stockholm Slipover is also one of my nine projects as part of Amy’s (@noblecharactercrafts) make along using the #makenine2021mal hashtag on instagram.

NEW & NOTABLE

I have had a lot of trouble buying the Pixel Mittens patterns (you’ll have to watch the podcast to find out why although I’m not even sure myself) and I wanted to make them in Drops Alpaca in this pretty new Pickle Green colourway (9029).

Because I just can’t buy the pattern I’ve decided instead to make the Simple Autumn Mittens by Halldora J which is a free pattern on Ravelry and has been sitting in my favourites folder for years.

I also managed to snag a skein of the Moana colour from Somerset Yarns..

Enjoy the podcast folks and remember to love one another, don’t let the government or the media tell you who to love, adore and hug. We are all in this together and we mustn’t let ourselves become divided.

Peace, love and happy knitting or crocheting to you all.
