how to crochet the vintage swirly hexagon pattern

These swirly hexagons are about as vintage as you can get. The magazine that the pattern is from is in black and white, undated (although looks to be about late 1960s/early 1970s) and called The Knitters Basic Book Volume 2, Mon Tricot.

The video tutorial might be a bit hard to follow - there is a lot of double crocheting (single crocheting for US viewers) and counting! I'm never usually the best counting crocheter, stresses me out. These hexis are worth it though, give it a go.

For this pattern I'm using Stylecraft Special DK: http://bit.ly/2ehBYSv and my favourite 4mm Clover Soft Touch Crochet Hook: http://bit.ly/2ew0I5z

MY ALTERED PATTERN

With your chosen yarn and 4mm hook, ch4 and join with a ss to form a loop.

Round 1. ch1, 6dc into loop, place marker, do not join.

Round 2. (ch4, 1dc in next dc) 6 times, do not join.

Round 3. (ch4, 2dc in next loop, 1dc in next dc) 6 times, do not join.

Round 4. (ch4, 2dc in next loop, 1dc in each of first 2dc of 3dc group) 6 times. do not join.

Round 5. 4ch, 2dc in next loop, 1dc in each of first 3dc of 4dc group) 6 times, do not join.

Continue in this way, working 1 extra dc in each group on each round.

When you get to the 10th round work ch5 instead of ch4.

Continue until you have 13dc in each group, break off yarn.
