vintage crochet | adelie motif
This is the Adelie Motif, isn't she a pretty?
She's a vintage crochet motif taken from the Mon Tricot Crochet Dictionary, 1980. I saw it and knew instantly that I wanted to make something with it but at the time of writing I'm still not sure what it is that I'll make.
I thought that I would share the pattern with you, I will also do a video tutorial to go with this post but I'm not sure when I'll be able to get that done so will add it in later. I provide the pattern in the interest of sharing and keeping our vintage crochet heritage alive, and as such you can use it freely but obviously not sell it.
The pattern is provided in both UK and US terminology. You will need two colours of any weight yarn, preferably a light and a dark colour, and a corresponding hook. For reference, I used Drops Paris in Light Grey and Dark Grey and a 6mm hook.
UK version
Using the lighter colour yarn, ch7 and join with a slip stitch to form a loop.
Round 1. ch3, then into loop work 1tr, (ch7, 2tr) three times, ch7, slip stitch into 3rd of beg. 3ch.
Round 2. ch2, into each loop work (1dc, 1htr, 2tr, 2dtr, 1trtr, 2dtr, 2tr, 1htr, 1dc, ch2), finish last loop at 1dc and join with a slip stitch in 2nd of beg. ch2. Break off light colour yarn.
Round 3. join dark yarn into the middle of any of the 2tr's from round 1 and ch10 (this round goes around the back of the round 2 petals), *1tr in middle of next 2tr from round 1, ch7, repeat from * around, finishing with a slip stitch into the 3rd of the beginning ch10.
Round 4. into each loop work (1dc, 7tr, 4ch, 7tr, 1dc), finishing with a slip stitch into beginning dc. Break off yarn.
Sew in ends and block by pinning out the 4ch loops at the top of the round 4 petals.
